About Suzanne

Suzanne Morgan Williams is the author of the upcoming middle grade novel, Bull Rider (Margaret K. McElderry Books, 2009) and 11 nonfiction children's books with more on the way.  From the time she wrote her first book, Made in China, Ideas and Inventions from Ancient China, to the present, her work takes her into classrooms to connect with students, to universities and museums to work with experts, and to communities to share experiences. She has traveled three times to the Canadian Arctic to work with Inuit people, writing The Inuit Franklin Watts, 2003, and has worked with Indian people from various tribes on  books and projects.

I think of my projects in terms of kids and trees—will kids want to read the books? Will they learn something special enough that it is worth using the trees?

Here is something I learned from Inuit elders in the Arctic—If you want to learn, get quiet and watch and listen.

Pinatas and Smiling Skeletons, Celebrating Mexican Festivals, co-author Zoe Harris, Pacific View Press, 1999, won Best Nonfiction Multicultural Book 1999 from Independent Book Publishers, and was chosen as outstanding by Parents Council.

A former elementary teacher, and always a mom, Suzanne believes children deserve honest, accurate, kid-friendly books.  You'll find her speaking at libraries, museums, teacher workshops, and schools - or at home writing (or gardening or feeding her goats).  You'll find her books in museum shops and libraries as well as book stores.
