There are a number of wonderful, thorough, websites devoted to writing children’s books. And there are great print resources too. I’m listing a few of my favorites here.
But, nothing helps me more than belonging to a community of writers. It seems other writers and illustrators are the ones most willing to listen to our successes and disappointments. Other writers provide a “first ear” for manuscripts and a cheering section for our sales. Here’s to writers’ groups, whether they are six folks from the community, or the 20,000 member strong Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
And, I am always willing to consider speaking to your writer’s group about writing for children. Contact Suzanne. I wish you many wonderful hours, days, and ultimately years of writing and drawing. It is a good and important job. Suzanne |

Writing Tip
Always read over what you have written from a child’s point of view. Would a child of your readers age understand what you’ve written? Do they have the experience to relate to your metaphors? Do they need special information? Will they care about your subject? How would a child react to each of your scenes? |
